Instructions

Step 1
To install the grill grate, position it flat on top of the heating element and gently press down until it sits into place.

Step 2
While holding the smoke box lid open, use the pellet scoop to pour the pellets into the smoke box until filled to the top. Then close the smoke box lid.

Step 3
Turn dial to GRILL, select WOODFIRE FLAVOR, set temperature to HI and set time to 15 minutes. Select START/STOP to begin preheating (preheating will take approx. 16 minutes).

Step 4
In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, half the basil, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Shape into golf ball-sized meatballs.

Step 5
In a medium bowl, toss the Roma tomatoes, red onions, and garlic with 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Step 6
When the unit beeps to signify it has preheated and ADD FOOD is displayed, open the hood and place the tomatoes, onions, and garlic, cut side down on the grill. Close hood to begin cooking. Grill vegetables for about 3 to 4 minutes per side or until edges are browned and softened. Remove vegetables from grill and set aside.

Step 7
Add meatballs to grill. Close hood and cook for about 8 minutes, rotating a few times during cooking. Remove meatballs from grill and set aside. Add buns to grill, cut side down, then close hood to toast buns for 1 to 2 minutes.

Step 8
In a food processor, add the grilled tomatoes, onion, garlic, remaining olive oil, remaining basil, sugar, salt, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. Blend until combined and smooth.

Step 9
Place tomato sauce into a bowl and toss meatballs into sauce. Place bottom buns onto grill, top with 2 to 3 meatballs, then a spoonful of sauce and a slice of cheese. Repeat with remaining sliders. Close the hood, select BROIL, set time to 3 minutes, and select START/STOP to begin. Broil sliders until cheese is melted, remove from grill, add top bun and serve.
