Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke or smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 8 ounces tempeh, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 2 beefsteak tomatoes, cut into 1/4-inch slices
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 tablespoons basil, chopped fine
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 4 slices whole grain bread, toasted
  • Romaine hearts for serving
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Utensils needed

  • Shallow Dish

Instructions

Step 1
In a shallow dish, mix together soy sauce, brown sugar, liquid smoke (or smoked paprika), garlic powder and onion powder until well combined. Place tempeh slices in the soy sauce mixture to submerge and set aside to marinate.

Step 2
Season the tomato slices well with salt and pepper, set aside.

Step 3
Install crisper plates into both baskets and spray with cooking oil. Place the tempeh slices in the Zone 1 basket, then insert basket into the unit. Place tomatoes in Zone 2 basket, then insert into unit.

Step 4
Select Zone 1, select AIRFRY, set temperature to 375°F, and set the time to 13 minutes. Select Zone 2, select AIRFRY, set temperature at 375°F, and set the time to 5 minutes.

Step 5
Select SMART FINISH. Press center of dial to begin cooking.

Step 6
While your tempeh bacon and tomatoes cook, mash together the avocado, basil, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Step 7
When tempeh bacon and tomatoes are done, lay out 2 slices of whole grain bread. Layer the bread with a generous amount of avocado basil spread, followed by romaine hearts, roasted tomatoes, tempeh bacon and finally the other slice of bread.
